Alternative Medicine: A complete system of medicine that includes diagnosis and treatment that is used instead of Allopathic/Western medicine. Example: Traditional Chinese Medicine.

CAM: An abbreviation for Complementary & Alternative Medicine.

Complementary Medicine / Methods: Tools and techniques that are used to support Allopathic medical treatment.  Examples: Yoga, Visualization, Reiki, CST, etc..

EBM: An abbreviation for Evidence Based Medicine.

eCAM: An abbreviation for Evidenced-based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.

Patient-centered Integrative Medicine: In this approach the patient is the center of and responsible for their own healing process.  He or she works with a team of practitioners from different modalities for support and treatment of his or her mind, body, heart and spirit.
